"In the process of yoga one's true nature is revealed by removing the objects in the mind field that are obstructing self realization"- Baba Hri Dass

अता योगनुशासनाम
Atha yoganushasanam
Now the discipline of yoga is being explained.

योगश चीता वृत्ति निरोधः
Yogash-chitta-vritti-nirodah
Yoga is the cessation of mental processes

तदा द्रष्टुः स्वरूपे वेस्थानाम
Tada drashtuh svarupe vasthanam
Then when the thought waves are controlled the seer is established in his own true nature

There are endless possibilities in consciousness. Conscious thoughts are what manifest our reality. According the Patanjali's second sutra, when practicing yoga we are working towardscontrolling these waves of thought that consume our consciousness. The third sutra goes on to state that by controlling our thoughts, the "underlying consciousness principle is revealed" causing Self-realization. Realizing the self, or coming into one's own true nature means that the self must be completely isolated from all things- in other words: being totally aware and present within the self and honoring the highest form of self bring one to a state of
Kaivalya (freedom).
