The Spirituality of Fasting

"Bread dissolves in the stomach and starts on its way to consciousness"- RUMI

Fasting can be a very spiritual experience. A time to let go of attachments to what nourishes you as well as weighs you down. Fasting removes energetic blockages in the body and allows a clear mind, body, and soul to reconnect with the universe in a pure light. It's a great time for meditation, deep reflection, self-healing, and manifestation. During a fast you will re-connect with your inner-knowing and find more strength (emotionally and physically), clean the physical body, and charge up the spiritual body.

Fasting is mentioned in the Old and New Testament, the Mahabharata, Upanishads, and Qur'an.

Refuse The First Plate

There is a deliverance that comes
when you move from eating greasy scraps
to more beautiful, noble food.

One kind of food give you flatulence
and dirreahea, a heaviness in the stomach.

The other keeps you light
as you ride the ocean.

FAST, and watch what arrives.
A materially full person is not alert
for dishes that descend.

Don't always eat what's offered.
Be lordly. Refuse the first plate.
Wait, and the host will send out better food.

Lift your head like the tallest mountain in the dark
that the dawn turns red, then gold.
RUMI

Jesus Said: "When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show men they are fasting. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that it will not be obvious to men that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you."-Matthew 6:16-18

This post is inspired by the 2 weeks fast I am currently on!
