You are what you eat!
Svadyaya is the study of the Self. The practice brings you deeper into connection with your true higher-Self. When we add dietary restrictions to our life such as vegetarianism, veganism, and fasting, we learn our Self. Just as our bodies are affected by the foods we eat, so are our minds. Food is energy, so of course the energy of the food you eat effects you on greater levels. Every part of the food you eat is absorbed into your body. The energy that was put into growing it, harvesting it, cooking it, and eating it are all going to affect you.
Having the Tapas (dedication) to maintain dietary restrictions or stick to fast also tells you a lot about your physcial, mental, and emotional bodies. It is not easy to eat one thing when everyone else is eating something else. It is not always pleasent to explain why you are fasting, or that it is not necessarily for weight issues. It takes a lot of will power, self confidence, and self love, to only put food of the highest vibrations into your body.
Saucha is cleanliness. Having a clean body and mind is the result of a pure diet. The state of your body is a reflection of the state of your mind. How can the mind be clear when the body is full of toxic energy?
Everything is energy, and everything is really all connected. To see yourself in others, animals, plants, and minerals is a crucial part of svadyaya. If positivity is what you desire, then positive vibrations is all you should open yourself to.
You can learn a lot from what they put into your body and what you restict. How do you feel after eating meat? What's your day like when you don't have any dairy? What kind of emotions come up when you are fasting? What does is feel like to be full of a fresh organic salad?
