Initiate

Life force energy is a force greater than you or I. It's the driving power behind everything in this universe. Hawaiians would call this Mana, in Sanskrit: Prana, Christianity: Holy Spirit, Chinese: Chi. It's everywhere. Our breath is a manifestation of life force energy. In yoga, we link breath and movement- life force with the body. The breath is what initiates the movement. It tells us what comes next, guiding us through the practice.

The universe is sensitive to what you think and feel. When your life force is set on something and you believe in it, all you have to do is initiate actions towards your goal in order to manifest into reality.

Contemplating future goals is how we lay out a path and create roots for where we want to go next. Thoughts will whirl around your mind and then become a vision. Visualizing what you want to happen will give you the motivation to take action towards your goal. The greater picture we have in our minds, the more connected our heart becomes to the idea. When the heart and the mind are set on something, it's even easier to create.

Passion. You know that excited, sometimes overwhelming or anxious feelings that come up when thinking about what lies ahead of you? Passion and belief in your ambitions turns them into real objectives opposed to random thoughts. Have hope and give creditability to your dreams, with the right intention and focus they will become a reality.

12 Ways to Find More Balance

1. Drink more water: Drinking more water helps move energy through the whole body. Drinking more water can reduce or eliminate cravings… dehydration causes cravings for sweets. Next time you crave something sweet try drinking a glass of cold water before you give in.

 2. Cook your meals: Create a relationship with the food you eat! Preparing your own meals is a huge step toward healthier living. This way, you know exactly what ingedients, how much of it, and the quality of what you are eating.

 3. Add whole grains to your diet: Whole grains help keep blood sugar levels balanced. People tend to stay away from carbohydrates, but the right amount of healthy whole grains can actually help you loose weight. Most of us bloat from gluten so try some Gluten-free grains: amaranth, brown rice, buckwheat, millet, quinoa, sorghum, and teff.

 4. Increase sweet vegetables: Who said no sweets allowed? Try sweet veggies like corn, carrots, onions, beets, winter squash, turnips, parsnips, radishes, daikon, green cabbage, red cabbage, burdock next time you get a craving.

 5. Increase green leafy vegetables: Who knew those green leafs that grow in the ground could be so healthy? They aid in blood purification, cancer prevention, improved circulation, immune strength, subtle, light, and flexible energy, lifted spirit, elimination of depression, promotion of healthy intestinal flora, improved liver, gallbladder, and kidney function, clearing of congestion...

 6. Try different types of protein: Try get protein from other sources than animals: nuts, beans, soy. If animal products are part of your diet try organic meet and dairy- it’s better for you and the environment.

 7.  Eat less meat, dairy, sugar and chemicalized, artificial junk foods; consume less coffee, alcohol and tobacco: Challenge yourself to fight cravings! While these things make us feel good in the moment, they don’t keep us feeling good in the long run. Think about the consequences of what you put in your body- we want to nourish our body, not harm it.

 8. Develop easy and reliable habits to nurture your body: You are the best thing you have- so take care of yourself...it doesn't have to be expensive and it doesn't have to be extravagant. Some ideas: at home facial with a clay mask, give yourself a pedicure, some yummy raw cacao instead of milk chocolate, one night a week shut off the cell phone and computer- light a candle- and breath!, go for a walk in nature by yourself, cook a meal for yourself…I’m sure you can think of some ideas on your own.

 9.  Have healthy relationships that support you: Are the relationships in your life mutually beneficial? Take some time to reflect on them, maybe certain ones need to come to an end and other ones need more attention. When the relationships in your life are healthy it makes a big difference in the quality of your living.

 10.  Find physical activity you enjoy and do it regularly: run, walk, go to the gym, go out dancing with friends (and skip the cocktail!), take a yoga class, hula hoop, swim, play a sport...anything that moves your body.

 11.  Find work you love or a way to love the work you have: We can't all have a dream career, but we do all have to work. So whatever you do find what you love about it and let that be your focus. Also know that regardless of what your job is, we are all playing a part in making this world a better place. Your attitude everyday makes a difference not only to your quality of life, but to everyone you come into contact with.

 12. Ignite your Passion: Discover a new hobby, fall in love with a new pet, start a meditation practice, become reacquainted with a traditional religion, get involved in community service…Find what ignites your passion, what makes you feel uplifted and alive, something you are devoted to. Enhancing this area makes us happier because spirituality (or devotion) is a selfless act that brings numerous feel good benefits.

Cause and Effect

What is more powerful than your actions? Every moment we make a decision and follow through with it. Even if we choose to do nothing, that is still an action. Actions are what create the world we live in. It's up to you to choose the quality of your actions.

Think about your day, how many times are you faced with simple choices: Sleep in or get up early? Get all my work done today or let go of responsibility? Give in to cravings, eat that cookie? Take some extra time to prepare a healthy snack? Listen to my head? Listen to my heart? Help a friend a need or use the time for myself? Be active or watch TV? Wear the red shirt or the black shirt?

Sometimes we don't even think twice about simple choices and other times we contemplate the right decision...of course some choices are harder than others. But it's important to remember that even minor decisions make a difference in our world. The quality of your actions say a lot about the person you are and more importantly send a message to the universe about what it is you really want.

Try to notice the actions you take throughout your day- are the nourishing you holding or you back? How are your actions effecting the people around you? Choosing actions that nourish you and the people around you will bring you closer and closer to living the life you want.

"Life can be defined as the gradual transformation of energy into matter, just as death can be defined as the transformation of matter into energy. These transformations have a beginning, middle, and end. At the end of each transformation, a new cycle begins. Each nuance of action can have infinite effects. The entire cosmos reverberates with the accumulated action of all its inhabitants- from outer space to inner space.

What matters in your life is the QUALITY OF YOUR ACTIONS and their resulting effects. These accumulated actions (karmas) and their infinite repercussions are what propels us into the next life..."
-Sharon Gannon & David Life

"Preform necessary action;
it is more powerful than inaction;
without action you even fail to sustain your own body.
Action imprisons the world
unless it is done as sacrifice!" -Bhagavad Gita 3.8-9

A big part of the Yogic journey is detaching from your actions as well as the fruits of your actions. The fruits of your actions are what you will gain from what you are doing. An action becomes a sacrifice and   when you are doing it for the sake of doing it-and for no other reason. Eating a vegetarian diet because it is good for the planet not for diet reasons, helping others for their sake, not for the recognition you receive for doing it, practicing yoga not just for the physical benefits, studying and doing your work to help make this world a better place not to make profit... those are just a few basic examples. Can you not only choose right actions but detach from the outcome of them? This practice will bring more joy to your  everyday tasks and allow you to be more present with what you are doing.

Third Chakra: Your Center of Personal Power

The energy of the third chakra helps us use personal power to manifest goals. Building strength and finding balance here will reduce fear of rejection, reduce negative thoughts on self-image, increase your confidence and sense of belonging. The third chakra balances mental understanding with the emotional life. When we are healthy in this area, it's easy to be productive, go after what you want, and take responsibility for what's going on in our life. Your reality can be whatever you want it to be- By taking responsibility for your life, you are taking the reigns. The third chakra is a great place to go to find the personal power you need to "go get it"!
